Matthias Is Walking!
Matthias is finally starting to walk on his own! He has done it before, but almost always because we were prompting him to do it, and only a few steps at a time. Today, while I was on the phone, he walked from my living room chair toward the middle of the room — probably about 5 feet or so. He was a little wobbly, but he didn't fall over until he was to the middle of the room! There weren't any toys in the room, so I guess he just decided he wanted to walk. I am so proud of our boy. :)

New Year, New Life
Ok, well, "new life" may be a slight exaggeration...but there have been a few big changes in a short amount of time!
Matthias turned 1 year old on January 21. We don't know where the time went. I literally feel like he just learned to roll over, and now he is SO close to walking. He is capable of walking short distances (about 5 steps or less) by himself but still prefers to crawl, cruise along furniture, or — his favorite — be carried. :) He is also learning to feed himself with a spoon and "talks" all the time. His only words right now are "Mama," "Dada," and "Hi." He can say "Uh-oh" but has only said it a couple of times. He points to everything and says "Dat!" all the time. He is now completely weaned from nursing. He drinks milk from a bottle in the morning and at night, but we're going to start working on getting him to use a cup at those times instead, since he drinks really well from a cup.
His birthday party was 2 days after his actual birthday since that's what worked out best for everyone attending. We went to Godfather's Pizza, so cleanup was minimal and we didn't have to do dishes! Jason's parents and sister were there, as well as my mom and sister, and two of our good friends and their 3 kids. It was a lot of fun. I made a cake in the shape of the number 1, and with the pieces I cut from the large cake, I assembled a little square cake for Matthias to eat. He very rarely gets treats like cake, so once he figured out what it was, he shoved it in his mouth like there was no tomorrow! We started to realize that he had gotten a lot of it in his mouth (I was expecting more of it to end up on the table, floor, etc.), when he started crying — his tummy was probably starting to hurt! He would cry and hold his arms out to me, then go back to shoveling in cake, then back to me...it was both sad and funny at the same time. Poor kid. Once we got him cleaned up and changed, he seemed to feel a little better. His belly was pretty hard, and he didn't eat very much for supper that night!
Other changes:
1.) I think this is common knowledge by now, but we are expecting another baby July 19! We will find out the gender in about 3 weeks. So far everything seems to be going really well. I had some morning sickness, but not nearly as bad as it was with Matthias. I am sort of dreading the glucose test...I have a really high chance of developing gestational diabetes again. I really hope that doesn't happen, but if it does, oh well...at least I know how to deal with it. We are very excited to have another little one and expand our family! I think once Matthias adjusts to having to share Mommy & Daddy's attention, he is going to love having a brother or sister — he is such a social little guy! He loves being around other kids.
2.) I recently quit my job to be a stay-at-home mom. February 5 was my last day. Even though it is going to require some sacrifices, Jason and I are very happy about this change. We have been thinking and praying about it for some time. I am still doing a couple of freelance projects for the company I used to work for, so it will be nice to keep in touch with my coworkers and keep up my writing/editing skills.
I feel bad that it has been so long since I have posted anything. I really wanted to post pictures from Matthias' birthday party, but unfortunately, we lost our camera after the party. :( We are still pretty bummed out about it...more about the lost pictures than the camera, but we are sure missing the camera too! Here is the only picture we have (taken on my sister-in-law's cell phone):

Hahahahaha — isn't that the best picture?! It's from when he started crying after eating so much cake. (BTW, the cell phone on the table is "his"...it's an old one that we let him play with.)
Here are a few other recent cell phone pictures. Until we get a new digital camera, our cell phone cameras are all we have!

Sleepy boy! He has to have his little silky blue blanket at naptime and bedtime, and as soon as he has it, his thumb goes in his mouth.

He doesn't look like his daddy at all, does he?

Riding on his dump truck that Daddy & Mommy got him for Christmas!

My handsome boys. :)
